2009 Special Challenge Classes
SECTION A: SPECIAL CHALLENGE CLASSES
1. ROSE IN A BOWL.  Can be any large rose.
One bloom, no stem or foliage, 1/2 to 3/4 open,
floated in clear water in a clear container to be
furnished by the society.  ARS Rose Bowl Large

2A. MINIATURE ROSE IN A BOWL.  Same rules apply as in Class 1, but using
a miniature rose.  Mini containers are furnished by the society.

2B. MINIFLORA ROSE IN A BOWL.  Same rules apply as in Class 1, but using
a miniflora rose.  Containers are furnished by the society.

3. MOST FRAGRANT.  One stem of bloom or blooms of a fragrant rose of any
type or variety to be correctly named and displayed in a container furnished by
the society.  To be scored 80 points for fragrance and 20 points for the overall
general condition of the exhibit.

4. ENGLISH BOX.  Six exhibition-stage blooms of any variety or combination
of varieties of large roses correctly named and exhibited in boxes furnished by
the society.  No foliage is permitted to show.  When the quality of the exhibits is
close, the arranging of bloom color may be the deciding factor for the judges.
Scoring will be based on the ARS point system with the following exception.
The 30 points normally allowed for stem, foliage and balance will be awarded
to over-all beauty, composition, and excellence of the exhibit.

5. MINIATURE/MINIFLORA ENGLISH BOX.  Six exhibition-stage blooms of
any variety or combination of varieties of miniature and/or mini-flora roses
correctly named and exhibited in boxes furnished by the society.

6. ARTIST’S PALETTE.  Seven shrub and/or old garden rose varieties exhibited
in an artist’s palette provided by the society.  No more than two roses of any
variety may be included, and foliage is not permitted.  The blooms should
represent a range of colors as used by an artist.

7. HI-LO.  One hybrid tea or grandiflora bloom, and one similar miniature or
mini-flora bloom, exhibited in separate containers provided by the society.

8. SHRUB BOUQUET. Three to seven different shrub varieties correctly named
and exhibited in a single container.  May be single blooms, with or without side
buds or sprays.  Exhibitors may provide their own clear container or use
society’s.  Award
