2009 Specimen/Horticulture Rose Classes
SECTION B: SPECIMEN ROSE CLASSES
Roses will be placed in alphabetical order in each
class according to the name of the variety or cultivar.
Each separate variety or cultivar will constitute a
separate subclass, and a rose or roses entered in this separate subclass will be
judged against the standards for that variety.  In most cases, an exhibition bloom
is considered to be at its most perfect stage of possible beauty when it is from
1/2 to 3/4 open, with the petals symmetrically arranged in an attractive circular
outline tending toward a high center.  Single and semi-double varieties should
be open with fresh stamens.
1A. HYBRID TEAS, CLIMBING HYBRID TEAS, GRANDIFLORAS.
One bloom per stem with no side buds.

8. VICTORIAN ROSE.  OGR VARIETIES INTRODUCED IN 1867 OR AFTER,
OR WITH UNKNOWN DATES OF ORIGIN KNOWN TO BE AFTER 1867.
One stem of bloom or blooms, with side buds permitted.
May be exhibited stem-on-stem.

9. GENESIS AWARD.  Varieties designated as Species (Sp.)
ARS Genesis Award Certificate and Award
10. SHRUBS.
A. CLASSIC SHRUBS. Hybrid Kordesii, Hybrid Moyesii, Hybrid Musk and
Hybrid Rugosa. (See the Handbook For Selecting Roses.)
ARS Best Classic Shrub Certificate and Award
B. MODERN SHRUBS. Shrub class (S) as designated in ARS publications.

11. LATERAL BLOOM SPRAY.  SPECIES ROSES, OLD GARDEN ROSES,
OR SHRUBS. ONE CANE WITH LATERAL BLOOM NOT TO EXCEED 30”

Judges, please note that, if otherwise eligible, entries in this class may be
considered for the following awards: GENESIS, DOWAGER QUEEN,
VICTORIAN ROSE AND BEST CLASSIC SHRUB.
12. LARGE-FLOWERED CLIMBERS AND HYBRID WICHURANAS.
One bloom with no side buds or a spray of two or more blooms.
Please note that climbing forms of hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas,
polyanthas, and miniatures are to be entered in their respective bush-type
classes, just as if the word “climbing” did not appear before the
classification, unless the climbing hybrid tea has no bush counterpart.

One bloom with no side buds and displaying exhibition form with stamens not
